there's a recently closed case here in the states that was solved by the girlfriend's CONSTANT use of snapchat, tm's, and a love of photography. the bf had been unfaithful, so he gave her access to his whereabouts.....when he murdered both parents, chopped them up, and disposed of their parts, the gf had his location on her "where are you now" app.....found the bodies, convicted the sucker.
Also, who is that photo of in your blog entry.....
I've always thought about this in the context of the Bamber case. He was alone at home watching TV when the call came in from his father for help. He then did what all of us would do and call the police. And there began his downfall. The tragedy in the entire case to me is that he called for help and it was that help that conspired to convict him to cover up their own ineptitude. I've since met and interviewed people who have now instilled in me the thought to never trust the police.
Probably due to you I had JB in mind as I wrote this. I think I remember reading all kinds of stuff about riding a bicycle in a wetsuit. It sounds like JB was just having an ordinary evening on his own before the phone call... no alibi of course. Surely a man of his creativity could have come up with a much better cover story if he was guilty?
A paranoid schizophrenic with a history of drug taking and not taking her medication had a psychotic episode and killed everyone.
Or secondly, Bamber created an elaborate conspiracy, involving dozens of moving parts, that involved him cycling 5 miles cross country in the dark, murder everyone, stage the scene, call the police from the house, cycle home, call again, initially convince the police it was murder suicide , only to ruin his scheme because he’d forgotten he’d already told his girlfriend he was going to do it in advance.
I don't remember what I was doing three weeks last Wednesday at 2PM, but I hope providing my Safari history (showing which website I was scrolling at that time) will count as an alibi??? If I wasn't home at that time, there will be other type of digital footprint to prive that too, like for example my taxi ride history (where and when the ride started and ended) my payments history (where and when I paid for my coffee, etc) or something else, like text messages sent at that time, or Instagram stories showing what I was doing. I know I'm too reliant on modern technology, but I hope things like these can actually be used as an alibi????
I'm loving these comments. There are a couple of bits of context to this post. One is that the 4 cases I work on all predate social media and smartphones. In only one case was a mobile phone of evidentiary use and it was the time it was turned off the day after an abduction. The phone itself was never found. Let me try to provoke a little bit. I think most of the examples here assume the owner of the phone is the one using it at the time of the murder. How can you prove that it was you? Influencers share social logins with PR people. Do you have 2FA turned on? Could anyone else have guessed your password?
No I'm not arguing about the cases, I'm a little bit worried about myself, just in case something happens and I'll need an alibi... Yeah, I have 2FA turned on, alongside the location servies. I'm not a celebrity or an influencer, so I don't share my account information with anyone. Would the things I listed above be admissible as an alibi?
I think you're safe! Someone could guess a password but 2FA is very very difficult to get around. But I've found that very few alibis are truly watertight. Luckily these days there's usually lots of other evidence like the examples above. Where there isn't additional evidence it seems the case is likely to remain unsolved for possibly decades.

There are only 2 possible scenarios:
A paranoid schizophrenic with a history of drug taking and not taking her medication had a psychotic episode and killed everyone.
Or secondly, Bamber created an elaborate conspiracy, involving dozens of moving parts, that involved him cycling 5 miles cross country in the dark, murder everyone, stage the scene, call the police from the house, cycle home, call again, initially convince the police it was murder suicide , only to ruin his scheme because he’d forgotten he’d already told his girlfriend he was going to do it in advance.
Occam’s Razor.
Very persuasive!
